Our life is poisoned by a large number of ailments. One of them is osteoarthritis of the knee joint. This disease manifests itself more frequently in women, mainly after the age of forty. Very often, the disease ruins the life of overweight people due to the increased load on the joints. But the disease can affect the body not only in mature age. Very often it develops in young athletes, as well as after injuries, therefore it is often confused with other diseases of the knees. To be sure that you are developing osteoarthritis of the knee, you must determine the presence of certain symptoms.
Symptoms
Arthrosis of the knee joint is called gonarthrosis. Gonarthrosis develops in three stages, each of which is mainly characterized by increased pain.
The diagnosis can be determined by characteristic signs of the first stage:
- slight pain in the knee when walking;
- increased pain when going down or up stairs;
- severe pain in the morning after rest, weakening over time;
- swelling of the knees, in severe cases, synovitis is observed - the accumulation of fluid in the articular bag, which subsequently fills the space behind the knee.
It's also worth noting that severe pain doesn't just happen out of the blue. They are preceded by a long period (usually several months) of mild pain in the knees.
The second stage of the development of arthrosis of the knee joint, in addition to increased pain, is characterized by the presence of a painful crunch and the inability to normally bend or unbend the leg.
At the third stage, the pains become even stronger, because of them now it is not even possible to fall asleep. Now the knee can only be bent at an angle of 90 degrees, and it is very difficult to find a position where it does not hurt. In the affected joint, blood circulation is disturbed, and its deformation also begins.
It is quite difficult to treat arthrosis of the knee joint at the third stage of development. Therefore, when the first symptoms and signs are detected, it is necessary to immediately look for ways to bring the joints in order.
